FAQs
Common Questions
Do you have any questions about how I work or counselling in general? See below for answers to some of these questions and feel free to get in touch if you have any others.
How do I book?
Please get in touch by completing the ‘contact me’ form on the website. Emailing calmcounsellingcornwall@yahoo.com or calling/texting 07858 222537

I am often unable to answer the phone due to either being with clients or in my other job so if you do call please leave a voicemail and I will call you back when I am able to do so.
What is an Introductory Session?
The first session is a 45 minute session where we get to know each other to see if we will be able to work with each other. It is important that you feel able to work with me as the counsellor/client relationship needs to work in order for counselling to work. You will get a taste of how future sessions will go and get to decide whether you want to book more sessions or not. You don’t have to decide this on the day but are welcome to do so.
Are sessions confidential?
Absolutely. All sessions at Calm Counselling Cornwall are strictly confidential, ensuring a safe space for you to express your thoughts and feelings without judgment.
Do I have to commit to a number of sessions?
No, how many sessions you have and how frequently is entirely up to you.

Ideally weekly is best for the first few sessions so that that relationship and trust between us is able to grow.
However I am completely flexible with what works for you.
Do you offer online or phone sessions?
My preference is in-person because I feel it is easier to create the trusting counsellor/client relationship that is needed for counselling to really work in-person. Especially for the first few sessions.

However if you live in another part of the county or are unable to access in-person counselling and really want to work with me I am happy to consider other options, please get in touch and we can have a look at what would work.
Is there anything to sign?
There is a brief contract we need to go through in the first session that explains the practicalities of how counselling works e.g. fees, cancellation policy etc. You don’t have to sign it on the day, you can take it away with you to read in your own time if you prefer. I am also happy to send this to you in advance if you would like me to do so.

There is also a small form I will ask you to complete with some personal details in-case of emergencies. This is kept in a locked drawer that only I have the key for so your personal details are always kept safe.
What if I am nervous about the first session?
It is normal to feel nervous about coming to counselling for the first time. You are meeting a stranger, going to an unfamiliar place and probably going to be talking about things that are hard and upsetting to think about.
Please let me know if you are feeling nervous and I will do my best to put you at ease, this may involve you sending a text when you are in the car park so I can go out and find you and walk in with you, or we can talk for 5/10 minutes on the phone first if you prefer.

You are welcome to leave the session at any time and do not have to go into the really deep, upsetting things straightaway if you would prefer not to. I will never push you to talk about something you are not ready to talk about.
